Job Description

The National Multiple Sclerosis Society mobilizes people and resources to drive research for a cure and to address the challenges of everyone affected by MS. To fulfill this mission, the Society funds cutting-edge research, drives change through advocacy, facilitates professional education, collaborates with MS organizations around the world, and provides programs and services designed to help people with MS and their families move their lives forward. We partner with volunteers to accomplish our work. Staff members engage volunteers through effective and timely communications, facilitating meaningful opportunities, and continually seeking and providing feedback for reciprocal growth and learning.

  • Direct management of social media team to ensure quality execution of social media content in support of campaign operational plans.
  • Ensures Society's Social Media presence is achieving engagement and follower goals.
  • Provide strategic marketing support to enhance Society practices and policies and ensure successful outcomes in support of the Society's strategic priorities.

Essential Function/Responsibility:

Social Media Management

  • Coordinates management of an integrated content calendar with Social Media Specialists.
  • Contributes to the Society's social media strategy and presence.
  • In conjunction with the AVP, Social Marketing, regularly reviews and enhances Society practices and policies in social media.
  • Coordinates breaking news and crisis communications response with appropriate staff, including communications and IRC, where required.
  • Helps implement an influencer/social ambassador engagement plan.
  • Helps drives Society's research and adoption of new channels or features within existing channels.
  • Directly manages some of the social media presence via posting, monitoring, engagement to stay informed and engaged in the work.
  • Directly manages Society's social media staff on a daily basis, ensuring a continuously effective and quality social media presence.
  • Prioritizes and assigns work to social media staff to maximize the organization's overall effectiveness. Reviews and guides social media content plans with the Social Media Specialists.
  • Manage and assess the tools leveraged by the team (social media management platform, social media listening platform and project management tools)
Monitoring and Reporting
  • Monitors competitive landscape pertaining to social channels
  • Stays current on existing and emerging social media channels and sites, including tools that facilitate social media management and comprehensive reporting and analysis to identify traffic, trends and opportunities to further enhance the Society's social media presence
  • In coordination with the AVP, Social Marketing, defines social media benchmarks dashboard and analytics allowing data-driven insights to be incorporated into strategy and align to strategic outputs
  • Monitors, measures and reports on overall social media performance
  • Synthesizes data, from technical to qualitative, into simplified and meaningful reports/information that clearly articulate progress and opportunities for improvement
Integration and Education
  • Communicates with various departments and within the Marketing department in regards to Social Media team efforts such as campaign plans and results.
  • Educates and trains the team and organization around Society's social media strategies and best practices in alignment with strategy and guidelines
  • Ensures Society-wide integration and consistent use of on-brand marketing and messaging/materials
  • Works cross-departmentally and across the organization to provide social media leadership, as well as prioritized tactical influence and involvement to ensure successful outcomes in support of Society's goals.
  • Works closely with our Corporate team to strategize, evaluate and integrate sponsors into engaging social media content
  • Ensures close collaboration and develops critical relationships with organizational marketing stakeholders, and drives consistency among social media and communications efforts
  • Maintains critical relationships with social media partners (i.e. Facebook, Twitter and Linkedin Reps)
