Job Description

The National Multiple Sclerosis Society mobilizes people and resources to drive research for a cure and to address the challenges of everyone affected by MS. To fulfill this mission, the Society funds cutting-edge research, drives change through advocacy, facilitates professional education, collaborates with MS organizations around the world, and provides programs and services designed to help people with MS and their families move their lives forward. We partner with volunteers to accomplish our work. Staff members engage volunteers through effective and timely communications, facilitating meaningful opportunities, and continually seeking and providing feedback for reciprocal growth and learning.

The Seasonal Development Coordinator, Walk MS will support Walk MS events and initiatives to ensure a great experience for participants, voluntneers, and sponsors and will assist with fundraising efforts.  This is a temporary position.

Essential Functions/Responsibilities:

  • Relationship Building:

    • Increase participant engagement through cultivation and recruitment activities
    • With guidance from the development leadership accelerates revenue growth by ensuring a strong event experience.  Works in collaboration with the logistics team (in-house or outsourced).
    • Collaborate with the market staff to implement successful team fundraising and recruitment weeks to maximize these efforts.
    • Execute electronic communication with participants and donors.
    • Assist event participants with registration & participant center support
    • Conduct personal outreach to participants to provide coaching around how to utilizing our online resources to increase their fundraising
    • Provide Customer service for Mass Market Event participants and donors and serve as fundraising resource for all event participants.
    • Provide support on site at events 
    • Assist with management of participant and team cultivation and recognition activities

    2. Sponsorship

    • Secure in-kind event food (snacks, fruit, water, breakfast and/or lunch.)
    • Secure media sponsors in TV, print and radio.
    • Secure cash and in-kind (cost relieving event items) sponsors.

    3. Marketing

    • Promote the Walk MS by distributing branded print materials in local businesses in accordance with society wide established practices
    • Plan and coordinate a MS Awareness Week activity or event using society-wide templates and guidance.
    • Brainstorm and implement ideas to attain and surpass walk sites fundraising and participant goals
