Job Description

The National Multiple Sclerosis Society mobilizes people and resources to drive research for a cure and to address the challenges of everyone affected by MS. To fulfill this mission, the Society funds cutting-edge research, drives change through advocacy, facilitates professional education, collaborates with MS organizations around the world, and provides programs and services designed to help people with MS and their families move their lives forward. We partner with volunteers to accomplish our work. Staff members engage volunteers through effective and timely communications, facilitating meaningful opportunities, and continually seeking and providing feedback for reciprocal growth and learning.
The Director, Marketing provides strategic marketing and plan development and implementation leadership across the organization through partnership and planning in a specific focus area, development, cross-channel integration and resourcing and readiness that ensures consistent Society-wide implementation of plans. This position is responsible for understanding and consistently leveraging the Society brand such that the organizational reputation is strengthened and fuels optimal results in the area of focus. The position also works closely across the marketing and other teams, including materials production, content development, digital and other production roles that may be part of the team assigned to a specific focus area, as well as functional leads with focus area responsibility. Success depends on the ability to lead through collaboration and influence, as well as an advanced, broad skill-set in marketing and communications to develop Society-wide plans that are ambitious, coordinated and effectively executed in all markets.
Essential Function/Responsibility
  • Work with focus area leaders to collaboratively develop plans that deliver specific outcomes to drive our strategic plan, particularly annual integrated marketing plans that are consistently implemented, including marketing and communications tools, systems, and materials that are consistently developed and delivered on-time and within budget across all markets. This includes close collaboration across marketing teams to develop and produce all necessary materials, and manage effective relationships for consistent implementation at all levels of the organization. Integrated marketing plans also include Society practice across proactive/promotional activities and leading consistent implementation of those activities (including budgeting), ensuring collaboration with other leadership around paid and non-paid plan developers (e.g.. online team, etc.). This work will require evaluation of individual market operational plans to identify and establish Society practices around an integrated marketing plan, and continuous improvement of plans over future years based on results and learning.

  • 2. Provide marketing strategy leadership ensuring that Society objectives are met, while working to successfully achieve joint outcomes and coordination across the Society as needed.

    3. Responsible for evaluating metrics reporting and other analysis of marketing efforts in the assigned focus area, to ensure continuous improvement and increasing impact of the work. Also includes collaborative planning across focus area constituent journeys, and how marketing work informs, and is informed by the development and continuous improvement of our constituent experience through systems, tools, etc.

    4. Volunteer Engagement
