Job Description

The National Multiple Sclerosis Society mobilizes people and resources to drive research for a cure and to address the challenges of everyone affected by MS. To fulfill this mission, the Society funds cutting-edge research, drives change through advocacy, facilitates professional education, collaborates with MS organizations around the world, and provides programs and services designed to help people with MS and their families move their lives forward. We partner with volunteers to accomplish our work. Staff members engage volunteers through effective and timely communications, facilitating meaningful opportunities, and continually seeking and providing feedback for reciprocal growth and learning.
Lead the local implementation of all community based programs in a specific geographic area, including current chapter developed programs and agreed upon core and connection programs. Responsibilities may also encompass supporting unified work in healthcare access and/or advocacy in the same geographic market as outlined below.
Essential Function/Responsibility

Lead local implementation of community based programs, including current chapter developed programs and agreed upon core and connection programs

 Implement Core and Chapter-Developed Programs:

  • Ensure a consistent experience, for people affected by MS participating in Society programs, is implemented in a particular geographic area.
  • Communicate, brand and message, available Society services, connections to the MS Navigator program etc.
  • Develop implementation plan and program calendar for a specified local area, ensuring Society-wide implementation so programs are available to all people affected by MS.
  • Identify and secure accessible locations for programs.
  • Ensure programs are available to isolated, underserved and culturally diverse populations across assigned geographic area.
  • Collect feedback and data on impact and share with program development team to determine and progress and plan for continuous improvement and excellence.
  • Identify program gaps in a particular geographic area and bring findings to supervisor for program development review and evaluation.
  • Identify and retain skilled professional speakers as well as provide content training, speaker disclosure, etc.
  • Lead local implementation and ongoing delivery of key nationwide initiatives; including but not limited to self-help groups and newly identified Connections programs.
  • Implement and track programs metrics that will guide work and ensure desired impact for people affected by MS.
  • Partner on  Walk MS Connections implementation plans for Walk MS events in a particular geographic area, providing opportunities for people affected by MS to connect with each other, connect with their communities and connect with the Society.
  • Support Society funding requests by providing information on chapter-developed programs to the AVP, Programs and Services and/or Development department.
  • Work with marketing partners to provide content and ensure local programs are marketed well to constituents.

Relationship Management and Volunteer Engagement

  • Ensure successful relationship development with leadership volunteers - self-help group leaders, healthcare providers, etc. through a systematic relationship management tool.
  • Hold a portfolio of agreed upon and prioritized relationships in a specific geographic area; identify, nurture and engage current and/or prospective members of the MS community (IE: healthcare providers, connections programs leaders, district activists and other community volunteers)
  • Identify and connect potential volunteers in the local community to Society programs. Specifically identify ideal self-help group leaders, MS Friends and Peer Support volunteers and connect them to the Director of Connection Programs.
  • Work in partnership with all Society self-help group leaders to ensure leaders feel connected to each other and to the Society
  • Develop meaningful opportunities for volunteers to be engaged in program delivery.
  • Track all interactions and program attendance in the Society database.
  • Lead Society engagement of scholarship recipients in a local geographic area.

Community Engagement

  • Works closely with supervisor to communicate interests of the local MS community with the Program Development team
  • Represent the organization at public speaking engagement, community in-services and training opportunities
  • Ensure communication is timely, productive and organized, ensuring that community perspective is shared with Services leadership team and program development team.
  • Identify community-based partners for possible program collaboration, strategic partnership development or support. Share opportunities with VP, Programs Development and Engagement to ensure thoughtful relationship management and opportunities are maximized
  • Support identification of local relationships and funding attached to chapter developed programs and work with supervisor to provide support or to transition to other projects
  • Ensure timely connection to the MS Navigator Program occurs in communities and that resources are identified and brought forward to support the Information and Resources identification and growth for Navigator Services.

Management/Administration:

  • Manage an annual program implementation budget in a particular geographic area.
  • Support marketing efforts of all local program implementation by coordinating efforts with AVP, Program Implementation and Marketing partners
  • Actively take part in local market events and activities supporting Society priorities and local staff and volunteers
