Job Description

The National Multiple Sclerosis Society mobiles people and resources to drive research for a cure and to address the challenges of everyone affected by MS. To fulfill this mission, the Society funds cutting-edge research, drives change through advocacy, facilitates professional education, collaborates with MS organizations around the world, and provides programs and services designed to help people with MS and their families move their lives forward. We partner with volunteers to accomplish our work. Staff members engage volunteers through effective and timely communications, facilitating meaningful opportunities, and continually seeking and providing feedback for reciprocal growth and learning.

The Executive Vice President, Marketing and Communications is a member of the Senior Leadership Team and must maintain a broad cross-functional knowledge of the Society, model our culture and contribute to strategic discussions and ensure development and achievement of an integrated Society plan and budget. The EVP, Marketing and Communications ensures alignment of the Marketing and Communications team across the organization, to ensure effective execution of the strategic, implementation and operating plans. Working effectively on leadership teams; creating high performing teams and contributing to increasing capacity through professional development is a primary responsibility.

Essential Functions

  • Oversee the Society brand development to represent our commitment to people affected by MS, grow the MS movement, build trust and confidence in the organization and its culture, and expand the Society's influence to affect desired change.
  • Ensure effective outreach to external constituents to increase awareness and understanding of multiple sclerosis and those it impacts and the role the Society fulfills in changing these lives. Inspire action and accelerate impact and the achievement of our strategic plan.
  • Maintain our "voice" and focus on key Society priorities and ensure this 'voice' is heard and has impact; remain continually attentive to language to support culture and goals.
  • Lead the Society's strategic marketing direction and ensure marketing plans support the Society's strategic, implementation and operating plans.
  • Ensure development of an integrated operational plan and budget that ensures the plan is resourced to meet the needs of the organization; implement adjustments to address risk and opportunities; measure results and report impact on a quarterly basis.
  • Ensure a digital marketing presence that stays relevant, current in social media engagement and advertising, the blogging/influencer community, etc., and meets our constituents where they are connecting, with a relevant, accessible, inviting voice. Ensure success of the Digital Advisory Committee
  • Ensure excellent systems and tools so that we can acquire, retain and build powerful relationships with all Society constituents so that they can achieve their highest potential; leverage existing and emerging technology, social media and constituent relationship management practices.
  • Ensure an open and welcoming organizational presence so that each person affected by MS connects and feels supported, embraced and powerful.
  • Supervise Vice Presidents in building high performing teams; develop and grow staff and volunteer skills and capacity. Develop and actively support professional development plans.
  • Maintain knowledge and high-level expertise in communication, marketing, digital, other relevant areas, industry trendsand external factors affecting performance. Seek perspectives and understand practices of other organizations
