The Development Manager, Walk MS & DIY will manage an event portfolio of constituents/teams and will be held accountable to achieving the fundraising goal as well as manage expenses. The Manager will cultivate positive relationships with the market's top participants/teams, volunteer committees, and corporate and community supporters. This position is responsible for relationship building and revenue growth through active management of a teams and top fundraiser portfolio.

The Development Manager acts as an ambassador for the National MS Society, always striving to engage participants and their donors with the mission. This position works closely with the development team and organization to foster participant engagement, exceed participant and donor expectations with the Society and drive revenue and participation. Strong relationship building skills, a positive, can-do attitude and a commitment to working as a team are essential for success in this role.

The Manager is responsible for the implementation of the operational plan of assigned revenue channel to meet or exceed revenue and engagement goals. This position oversees revenue in a limited geographic area from multiple events representing between $350K - $500K+ including Walk MS and DIY constituents.

Implement campaign strategies to retain, grow and recruit participants for assigned events

  1. Working with Development leadership executes operational plans that focus on acquisition, retention and cultivation of top fundraisers, teams, participants, sponsors, etc.
  2. Manages robust mid-level portfolios that include teams, top fundraisers, participants, sponsors, volunteers, etc.
  3. Ensures participant relationships and corporate partnerships result in growth in registrations and revenue.
  4. Working with relationship management teams to engage all staff in revenue growth assessment and the planning process.
  5. When applicable coaches, develops and supervises a market staff responsible for executing the plan (Teams, Top Fundraisers).
  6. Collaborating with the Development team to accelerate revenue growth by ensuring each Walk MS market has a strong event experience, including all VIP level recognition. Works in collaboration with the logistics team (in-house or outsourced).
  7. Collaborate with the market staff to implement successful team fundraising and recruitment weeks to maximize these efforts.
  8. Regularly monitor the performance of fundraising portfolio to ensure timely responsiveness to new registrants, to recognize fundraising and recruitment milestones and to maximize retention.
  9. Leverage mission related resource to engage participants during the year and motivate increased fundraising.
  10. Steward top fundraisers and team captains year-round with mission focus and gratitude.
  1. Develop relationship management teams for DIY fundraisers raising $2,500 or more.
  2. Attend DIY events raising $10,000 or more. This will require travel. If attendance is not possible, create a staff plan for another colleague to attend.
  3. Advocate across all assigned markets for DIY fundraising and increase awareness both internally and externally.
  4. Other duties as assigned.

Facilitates Volunteer Engagement for fundraising and event experience in the assigned event revenue portfolio

  • Cultivates volunteers, seeks and provides feedback and shares opportunities for reciprocal growth and learning.
  • Collaborates with key staff to maximize engagement and results of committees to increase outreach, acquisition and awareness
  • Encourage volunteer involvement on the part of teams and participant's connections to enhance the efforts and expand team/participant engagement with the Society.
